C4JR Urges Legal Reform in Iraq Following Genocide Sentences Against ISIL Members

On today’s Day of International Criminal Justice, C4JR wishes to draw attention to recent concerning rulings and urge the government of Iraq to pass legislation which incorporates international crimes in domestic legislation, rather than simply referring to it in sentencing.

C4JR Criminal Justice Working Group meet with UNITAD Head and UN Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs 

The C4JR Criminal Justice Working Group recently met with UNITAD Head Ana Peyró Llopis and UN Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs Stephen Mathias to discuss the future of evidence archiving and its accessibility for prosecuting Da’esh/ISIL crimes. It was emphasised that access to evidence must comply with international standards, including the prohibition of the death penalty.
