On June 18, 2025, the Coalition for Just Reparations (C4JR) held its fifth General Meeting in Erbil, bringing together member organizations and partners to reflect on the coalition’s progress and strategize for the future.
Dr. Bojan Gavrilovic, Head of Program for Rights and Justice at the Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights and C4JR Secretariat, presented a comprehensive overview of C4JR’s key achievements between 2023 and mid-2025. These included the publication of three annual monitoring reports, ten multilingual newsletters, and seven podcast episodes, all focused on promoting survivor-centered reparations and monitoring the implementation of the Yazidi Survivors’ Law (YSL). He also emphasized C4JR’s expanded advocacy work at both national and international levels, including engagement with UN bodies, treaty mechanisms, diplomatic missions during Iraq’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR), and policy discussions around the conclusion of UNITAD’s mandate.

Participants received updates from C4JR’s four specialized working groups, highlighting progress in legal support, justice and accountability, survivor engagement, and public advocacy. These efforts reflect C4JR’s commitment to the ethical participation of survivors, amplifying community demands, and advancing justice mechanisms in Iraq.
The meeting also featured interventions from C4JR members, sharing reflections, feedback, and proposals to enhance coordination and impact further.
Additionally, A representative of C4JR’s Survivors’ Council delivered a jointly written statement that acknowledged the comprehensive benefits of the YSL while stressing the absence of a trauma-sensitive, survivor-centered approach in its application process. The statement drew attention to persistent obstacles that compromise survivors’ safety, privacy, and well-being, and called for the full and equitable implementation of all YSL benefits.
As C4JR looks ahead, the meeting reaffirmed the coalition’s mission to ensure that justice and reparations are delivered in a survivor-centred, inclusive, and transparent manner.
