Addressing the C4JR-UNAMI conference, Deputy Special Representative of UNAMI Alice Walpole said that upcoming reparation legislation should “be expanded to include all survivors of conflict related sexual violence in Iraq”.
She further added that “such a step would better align the legislation with international human rights standards. A survivors centered, rights based response would place survivors at the heart of efforts to address conflict-related sexual violence in Iraq. None who suffered sexual violence under Daesh should be left out, all survivors should be covered by this important law”.
