UN Special Advisor on Genocide Prevention Highlights C4JR’s Grassroots Work as Essential

February 19, 2021

On December 7th 2020 C4JR sent an Open Letter to the UN Special Adviser of the Secretary General on the Prevention of Genocide Alice Wairimu Nderitu to draw her attention to the importance of pursuing reparations for atrocity crimes committed during the Da’esh/ISIL conflict in Iraq.

In her official reply from February 2021 Special Advisor Nderitu highlighted that “work at the grassroots level remains essential and I will be honored to support it. I look forward to our continued cooperation.”

C4JR welcomes the willingness of Special Adviser Nderitu to engage with our member organizations on her possible future visit to Iraq. C4JR’s grassroots coalition is eager to discuss the possibility of implementing meaningful action on transitional justice, reparations, peacebuilding and preventing hate speech in the region as we seek to enhance the voices of survivors of genocide.
