C4JR Releases Issue #10 of the Yazidi Survivors Law Newsletter (May 2025)

The Coalition for Just Reparations (C4JR) publishes regular newsletters to share accurate and up-to-date information regarding the Yazidi Survivors’ Law (YSL) and share the views and experiences of all actors involved in the implementation of this seminal transitional justice framework to address atrocities committed by ISIL in Iraq.

We are pleased to announce the publication of the tenth issue of the C4JR YSL Newsletter — a multilingual update that documents key developments, survivor-focused progress, and outstanding challenges related to the YSL.

📌 Highlights from Issue #10:

  • 2,216 survivors received reparation payments in April 2025
  • Remote testimony mechanism expanded to reach applicants living abroad
  • 262 residential land titles issued to Yazidi and Turkmen survivors in Sinjar and Tel Afar
  • Medical cards distributed to survivors for free access to public health services
  • Practical guidance published for NGOs supporting YSL applicants
  • Exhumation of 13 mass graves and return of 32 victims’ remains to Kocho
  • Continued legal challenges in the appeals process, with legal aid offered by C4JR
  • Recognition of Yazidi land rights in Sinjar after 50 years of dispossession
  • Anonymous survey in development to assess survivor satisfaction with reparations
